There are a few terms used about the site that we've defined here so that you can get the full benefit of the descriptions provided.
Proof Image: An image that has had little or no retouching or enhancement; Intended as a reference from which the client can request finishing in preparation for printing or presentation. All proof images will be watermarked.
Watermarked Image: Except for High-Resolution print image files, all electronic image files (either Proof or Finished) will carry the standard studio watermark. The print image files contain only the studio signature initials in the corner.
Web-Optimized Image File: A version of the finished image file that is designed specifically to display exceptionally crisp and clear on your computer monitor. The file size of a Web-Optimized image is typically 100kB to 150kB - ideal for e-mailing to friends or family, or to post on your MySpace, FaceBook or other websites. Because Web-Optimized images are produced by matching the resolution of the image to the display capability of your monitor, they will not support print sizes beyond 5"x7" at a level of quality commensurate with this studio. Larger prints and the Print Files may be purchased from the studio.
Finished Image: Any of the numerous aesthetically pleasing and technically correct images selected from the bulk of images created during your session that have been retouched and enhanced through digital post-processing to prepare them for final display and printing. Post-processing may include, where appropriate, softening any discoloration beneath the eyes, blemish removal, blending skin tones for a more even and youthful appearance, brightening the eyes, adding vignettes, cropping, and/or selective color modification, diffusion and sharpening.
High-Res Image File: Also called "High Resolution" or "Printable", these image files contain all of the information required to make photographic wall portrait print enlargements of virtually any size.
Print Product: Any item containing one or more physical hard-copy print of images from your photo session. Print Products include regular paper prints in a large variety of sizes from wallet size to 30"x40" wall portraits; handsome coffee-table-style Memory Books; beautiful leather-bound albums; sets of model Comp Cards; printed bookmarks; greeting cards; postcards; posters and calendars. Prints 5"x7" and smaller will not be mounted. Frames, surface textures and choice of mounting material are available for nearly any mounted print.
Release: A legal agreement for which you, our clients, receive compensation of a specific value (a 15% discount from the regular session price) for your permission allowing us the use of the images created during your photo session as examples to promote the studio. Granting this useage helps keep your portrait and product session costs down by reducing the number of sessions we need to shoot specifically to produce marketing material.
Model Release - A release signed by any individual subject 18 years of age or older.
Minor Model Release - A release signed by a parent or legal guardian of an individual subject under 18 years of age.
Group Release - A release signed by an individual 18 years of age or older who represents a group of subjects, including families, that may or may not include children.
Property Release - A release signed by the owner or appointed representative of any item that is sufficiently unique as to be commonly associated with a specific owner or entity, including products, well known structures, noteable antique vehicles, pets or other animals of sufficient fame to be easily recognized and/or of substantial value.
